The Cultural Center Theater in Homs hosted the Circassian Heritage Day event, organized by the Homs Directorate of Culture in cooperation with the Najeeb Foundation, as part of the Impact Makers Club activities for children during the mid‑year break.

Reviving Heritage and Promoting Cultural Diversity

The event aims to revive Circassian cultural heritage and promote the concept of Syrian cultural and linguistic diversity as an essential component of the shared national identity.

Aya Asleem, Head of the Heritage Department at the Directorate of Culture, explained that the activity focused on introducing children to Circassian heritage and reviving the shared cultural memory. She noted the positive interaction from the children, whose questions enriched the atmosphere and added vitality to the session.

Traditional Exhibits and Folkloric Performances

Najeeb Ibrahim Asran, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, highlighted that the event included a display of Circassian traditional products, such as traditional foods and folk costumes, in addition to folkloric performances, plays, stories, and proverbs in the Circassian language. He emphasized the importance of passing this heritage to future generations in a way that strengthens identity and national belonging.

Artistic and Cultural Participation

Participant Sibsa Ghablazouq shared her experience presenting Circassian stories, dances, and a traditional song, stressing the importance of such activities in bringing Circassian culture closer to the younger generation.

Meanwhile, Nurhan Ghablazouq contributed several traditional dishes, including the well‑known Circassian sweet “Halj”, expressing pride in showcasing the richness of Circassian cuisine.

A Living Heritage Reflecting Syria’s Cultural Richness

Circassian heritage is considered an integral part of Syria’s cultural and linguistic diversity, encompassing a wide range of customs, traditions, music, clothing, and traditional foods passed down through generations. Such events play a vital role in preserving heritage and introducing society to its cultural value, reinforcing the presence of diverse cultural components within the broader Syrian identity.
